The Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society (BIGS), a not-for-profit organization, is caretaker of the Gaelic American Athletic Association (GAAA) Irish Library, housed inside the Buffalo Irish Center, where microfilms and over 1,800 books of a variety of Irish topics are housed. This small library is where original copies of the Buffalo Irish Times are kept, and it is open to the public for research and pleasure reading.
The Buffalo Irish Times was first published in 1992 as a forum for thoughts, activities, and highlights of the Irish community in Western New York. It is a bimonthly newspaper that is still currently published by the Gaelic American Athletic Association. Funded by its advertisements and subscriptions, the Buffalo Irish Times is created by volunteers who are dedicated and concerned with the Irish community in Western New York and keeping its unique heritage publically known. This digital collection comprises seven issues of the newspaper, December 2001/January 2002 through December 2002/January 2003.
The Buffalo Irish Times digital collection was created by the University at Buffalo's LIS 563 (Digital Libraries) Class, Spring 2012, in cooperation with the Western New York Library Resources Council and the Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society.
